Kim Dinwiddie is a life-long learner who loves developing customized solutions for her clients. She sees every interaction as a chance to make an impact. We asked her a few questions about why she loves consulting and how she stays productive and efficient.
PbPI: What made you decide to become a workforce consultant?
Kim: When I left the corporate HR world, it was so that I could connect with individuals at a deeper level. I wanted to make a larger impact with those that wanted to grow and develop. I also wanted to partner with organizations that truly valued and put a priority on their employees.
PbPI: What do you love about what you do?
Kim: I love partnering with clients to meet their needs. I’m able to be creative and develop customized solutions to make an impact on both individual and organization-wide levels.
PbPI: What sets you apart from others who do work like yours?
Kim: I truly have a passion for what I do. I am a life-long learner and believe that every interaction I have is a unique chance to make an impact.
PbPI: How do you manage your time as a busy people professional?
Kim: Blocking focused time on my calendar has been key! When I’m working on a project, I have a set amount of time to have focused work and all other notifications are turned off. No phone, no email. I used to be a multi-tasker, but I have realized that I am much more productive and efficient with blocked focus time.
PbPI: How do you avoid stress and burnout?
Kim: I don’t believe there’s truly a way to avoid stress and burnout. It happens and will continue to happen. I have found the key is to quickly recognize when you’re in that space. I have implemented “reset walks” in my day. These are quick 10-15 minute walks to get up and clear my mind. It’s my way to regroup and rebound. I think the key is knowing the signals that you’re heading down that path and give yourself permission to feel it, work through it, and overcome it. We’re all human and it’s okay, as long as you don’t get stuck in that space.
